I just hope it will be priced competitively or at least has a cheaper base model to buy in at.
Affordable hybrid that has great performance and handling? Yes please.

I really hope it has different powerplant options. Don't want a hybrid.

I don't know what to say. I am too excited. Naturally, it must be a beautiful, understated, inline 6 with turbo option-powered, RWD 2+2 that is comfortable and will hang with a GT-R. Naturally. No hybrid powerplant or too much tech, please.

I know, you really can't get your hopes up with cars these days. I have been waiting for such a moment for years, though. Thanks for the share, BTW.

On the other hand, it has to be comfortable, 2+2 Grand Tourer capable of getting from Seattle to Portland then to CSR 1 whilst avoiding the usual adolescent tuner scene.
AKA, it has to be similar to a DB9.

Very true. A British review in 1993 compared the Supra to an Aston, and said the Supra was far and away more enjoyable, better, and proved to be the better value, but the Aston will appeal more to the target demographic because badges. Fast (and Furious) forward 20 years, and you have the Supra being a rare car that mostly made it into the right hands and has a large part of its following being asshats—the key is to make what has been missing from the automotive world: JZA80 Supra for 2020. The Supra was a modern car then, but it gave the feeling that an enthusiast desired in the backroads, in their commutes, and on the open straights. It had dual airbags and sophisticated technology with a 6MT, comfort, and 4.6 second 0-60 time, but kept the driving dynamics that made it a joy to drive hard and fast (RWD, great transmission, perfected inline 6 enigne, fantastic suspension, top-of-the-line tires, etc). If Toyota can do that again, it will fill that gap.

No problem, as long as you don't rush to a dealer, to order one, tomorrow.

The problem was marketing - or the lack thereof. High price combined with dull handling and you might as well look somewhere else. E36 M3, anyone?

Marketing was a major problem, as was the lack of an image. Toyota made the car too luxurious in many respects, resulting in the dull (but statistically impressive) handling. It was better than the M3, shown by the fact that the E36M can easily be had for 20% of its original price whereas the supra has appreciated, but could not be properly aimed at any one target. It has taken years for people to truly understand the Supra, which was Toyota's marketing's fault and not their engineering's.

Except that you still bought a "mass produced" vehicle with no prestigious history backing it up. Racing Pedigree? Sophistication? You can't overlook that fact - the A70 Supra was the peak of the family. My message to Toyota: A $40,000 faux grand tourer, Toyota? What the fuck were you thinking?!

I love the A70, but disagree. From an objective standpoint, the Supra was far and away better and made many great cars look inferior; pedigree is something I can do without.

But it didn't. Remember, the car was hit by the 276 BHP limit (God knows how many they ACTUALLY made) but at that time, offerings from other companies put paid to a rubbish Grand Tourer. The E46 M3 picked up what the Supra should have been.

I think the Supra was what it should have been. It is a great car in every respect (with a few tweaks) and will always be my favorite. It really made 320 BHP, but could have easily made 500 BHP with the sequential turbo setup, low-strung nature, and 3L block. As for the E46 M3, it was a great car, but I don't think it is very distinctive or as impressive as the Supra.

It's your opinion, but the fact remains the Supra was an underperforming heavyweight with no reason to be produced.

I don't know if you have driven one, but this Motor Trend test as well as many other tests from reputable magazines and TV shows concluded that the Supra was best to drive out of many cars, including the ones above. 0-60 was eventually concluded to be 4.6, top speed was lower due to limitations. I think you dislike the category, not specifically the car—GT cars are meant to do many things, and while not always as well as specialty cars, a car like the Supra is impressive in that it could perform so well in so many areas. Not all car need reasons to be produced; many cars with very good reason to be produced have not become half the halo car that is the A80 Supra

And that's only Japanese cars. The Supra should never be called a GT.
